Once rehabilitated, the historic building of the Academy in Griboyedov Street will house several exhibition halls.
In 1981, the building at 19 Chardin Street became home to a workshop of the Chair of Textile Design to enable studentscreate course and diploma works, including tapestries, carpets and rugs. Because of a large number of works that accumulated over time, on the initiative of Givi Kandareli and Tamaz Nutsubidze and with the support from the World Bank, the building was rehabilitated in 2001. An additional floor space was allocated for the collection and the Tapestry Museum was established.
The ground floor of the Tapestry Museum accommodates the
Academy+ Gallery of the Academy, which hosts exhibitionsmainly dedicated to new media and conceptual art.
