In March 2005 the Faculty of Computer Art, Graphic Design and Visual Communications was established at the Academy. In 2006, the Caucasian Institute of Photography and New Media was integrated into the Faculty that was later renamed as the Faculty of Media Arts.

In 2007 an animation studio was set up to train students in different animation techniques (drawing animation, puppet animation, plasticine animation and sand animation). The depository presently stores 29 short animation films, of which 16 have been awarded prizes and diploma at international students’ festivals.
