The program Art, Culture, Identities prepares researchers, whose qualification corresponds to the skills of solving topical problems facing Georgian culture of the 20th century. The program is based on fundamental researches of art. In addition, it goes beyond the formal analysis of art and turns to teaching understanding of cultural views of artworks, goes up from a formal level (similarity, influence) to a more general level, that is, study of foundations of humanitarian researches in general. The program does not envision placing the art in narrow hermetic boundaries, but comprehends the art of Georgian culture in general, treating culture as “Gestalt” and teaching formal analysis of art and vision and identification of cultural values using complex, synthetic, interdisciplinary methods. The study of researches of culture as a whole gives possibility to reveal Georgian identity, i.e. reflection of Georgian culture.
