Artistic Processing of Wood and Furniture Design

The Head of the Direction: Teimuraz Sarishvili, Associate Professor

In 1961 a Chair of Furniture Design was established. The Chair has graduated about 300 specialists of furniture design. In 2007 the Chair of Furniture Design changed its name and became the Direction of Artistic Processing of Wood and Furniture Design. The Direction includes designing of furniture for interiors of different assignments, as well as creating of artistic wooden items and study of constructional and technological processes needed for this purpose: wood-carving, marquetry, intarsia, finishing types, contemporary technologies, etc. Design is carried out in raster and three-dimensional graphics. The aim of the Direction is to prepare highly qualified artists-designers, to analyze the historical stages of development of the field, and to fully participate in the unified European educational, creative and research space.
