The Head of the Direction: Davit Aleksidze, Full Professor of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts


The Direction of Painting is one of the main directions of the Faculty of Visual Arts, which is taught in the Academy of Arts since its foundation.
The present methodology of teaching painting is complex. This methodology includes a thorough study of classical, academic principles as well as the information existing in contemporary art space and sharing this information.
The Direction of Painting conducts optional services for all departments and directions of the Academy of Arts. Training programs are prepared in accordance with the requirements of the specifics of the faculties and the directions.


The programs of The Direction of Painting include the following three specialties:


Easel Painting: The Specialty of Easel Painting is basic for all media. It is based on a combination of the best ideas of creative innovation and painting programs existing earlier. While studying painting traditionally great emphasis is attached to the study of basic postulates when working on a still life or nude models. As for the study of the principles of a painting composition, the work proceeds in a complex way, taking into account personal and individual interests of students.

Studios of Full Professors Gia Bugadze and Davit Aleksidze function at the Direction of Painting. Teaching in the studios is optional and depends on desire of students. Both the Academy’s staff and invited pedagogues teach in these studios.

 

Theatre Arts (Scenography): The Specialty of Theater Arts (scenography) envisages the experience of higher art institutions of Europe. The teaching programs established on the basis of both traditional and new methods, involve creation of theatre decors with its visual and technical aspects, as well as stylistic and technical solutions of theatrical costumes. Theater artists create a performance along with directors.

 

Cinema-TV Arts: The Studio of Cinema-TV Arts was established in 1968 at the Faculty of Visual Arts. The cinema-TV arts is a specific and functional branch. Conceptual structure of the program is based mainly on the development of creative and spatial thinking of students. Graduates of this branch should comprehensively use and expand the visual possibilities of
cinema-TV media language, achieve creative thinking and artistic independence; develop a skill of orientation in modern media environment; master highly artistic and creative methods of representing the visual characteristics of feature films, short films, documentary films, TV films, advertising clips, TV and staged shows.
